Persecution
"Yea, and all
that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution"
II Timothy 3:12
This article describes how God's people have been persecuted
throughout history. The persecution of Christians around the
world has increased and it is coming to the Christians in America.
1. Persecution Comes
Through Religious Leaders
All through Jesus Christ's ministry, the religious leaders and
religious people of His day tried to kill Him. In Luke 4:20-30
it says "20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again
to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that
were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to
say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words
which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this
Joseph's son? 23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto
me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have
heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. 24 And
he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his
own country. 25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in
Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three
years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the
land; 26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta,
a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. 27 And many lepers
were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of
them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. 28 And all they
in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with
wrath, 29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led
him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that
they might cast him down headlong. 30 But he passing through
the midst of them went his way"
Jesus exposed these religious
leaders and their history of persecuting God's anointed servants.
In Matthew 23:23-36 it says "23 Woe unto you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise
and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law,
judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and
not to leave the other undone. 24 Ye blind guides, which strain
at a gnat, and swallow a camel. 25 Woe unto you, scribes and
Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup
and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and
excess. 26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within
the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are
like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward,
but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within
ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. 29 Woe unto you, scribes
and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the
prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, 30 And
say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not
have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. 31
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children
of them which killed the prophets. 32 Fill ye up then the measure
of your fathers. 33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how
can ye escape the damnation of hell? 34 Wherefore, behold, I
send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of
them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge
in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35
That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the
earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias
son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this
generation."
Laws are being approved today
that one day will be used against the true Christians in America.
In the future the One World Religion (also known as Satan's church)
will persecute the true Christians all over the world. (For more
information see "The One World
Religion Is Here"in the July/August 2000 issue of the
Prophetic Messenger Newsletter and " Who
Is Mystery Babylon?" in the July/August 2001 issue of

2. Persecution Comes
Through Rulers of Nations
John the Baptist
told Herod that marrying his brother's wife was sin and through
his righteous stand he was later killed. In Matthew 14:1-10 it
says "1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the
fame of Jesus, 2 And said unto his servants, This is John the
Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works
do shew forth themselves in him. 3 For Herod had laid hold on
John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake,
his brother Philip's wife. 4 For John said unto him, It is not
lawful for thee to have her. 5 And when he would have put him
to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as
a prophet. 6 But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter
of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. 7 Whereupon
he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give
me here John Baptist's head in a charger. 9 And the king was
sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with
him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. 10 And he sent,
and beheaded John in the prison. "
The prophet Jeremiah warned
of the coming judgement to Judah and was later put in prison
for his previous warnings to the leaders of Judah. In Jeremiah
37:6-15 it says "6 Then came the word of the LORD unto
the prophet Jeremiah, saying, 7 Thus saith the LORD, the God
of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent
you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is
come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own
land. 8 And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against
this city, and take it, and burn it with fire. 9 Thus saith the
LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely
depart from us: for they shall not depart. 10 For though ye had
smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you,
and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they
rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
11 And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was
broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army, 12 Then
Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin,
to separate himself thence in the midst of the people. 13 And
when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was
there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of
Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest
away to the Chaldeans. 14 Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I
fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him:
so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes. 15 Wherefore
the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put
him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had
made that the prison."
3. Through Persecution
Many Works Are Done
a) The Gospel Message Reached
Out To Other People
Through persecution
the church was spread out to reach others with the message of
the gospel of Jesus Christ. In Acts 8:1-8 it says "1
And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there
was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem;
and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of
Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 And devout men carried
Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. 3
As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every
house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. 4 Therefore
they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the
word. 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached
Christ unto them. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed
unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the
miracles which he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud
voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many
taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 8 And there
was great joy in that city."
b) The Apostles Chose To
Serve God Than Man
The apostles through
persecution chose to serve God than man. In Acts 5:25-29 it says
" 25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the
men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching
the people. 26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought
them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they
should have been stoned. 27 And when they had brought them, they
set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not
teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with
your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought
to obey God rather than men." Also, in Acts 5:40-42
it says "40 And to him they agreed: and when they had
called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they
should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 And
they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that
they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. 42 And
daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach
and preach Jesus Christ." Through persecution it will
show who is really serving Jesus Christ.
c) The Apostles Were Delivered
By Angels
The apostles through
persecution were supernaturally delivered from those persecuting
them to continue preaching the gospel to the lost. In Acts 5:17-23
it says "17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they
that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and
were filled with indignation, 18 And laid their hands on the
apostles, and put them in the common prison. 19 But the angel
of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them
forth, and said, 20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the
people all the words of this life. 21 And when they heard that,
they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught.
But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called
the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel,
and sent to the prison to have them brought. 22 But when the
officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned,
and told, 23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all
safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but
when we had opened, we found no man within." In Acts
12 :6-17 it says "6 And when Herod would have brought
him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers,
bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the
prison. 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and
a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side,
and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell
off from his hands. 8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself,
and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him,
Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. 9 And he went out,
and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done
by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. 10 When they were
past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate
that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord:
and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith
the angel departed from him. 11 And when Peter was come to himself,
he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his
angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from
all the expectation of the people of the Jews. 12 And when he
had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother
of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together
praying. 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel
came to hearken, named Rhoda. 14 And when she knew Peter's voice,
she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how
Peter stood before the gate. 15 And they said unto her, Thou
art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then
said they, It is his angel. 16 But Peter continued knocking:
and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.
17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace,
declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison.
And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren.
And he departed, and went into another place."
Also, in Acts 27:21-26 it says
"21 But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the
midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto
me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm
and loss. 22 And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there
shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship.
23 For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I
am, and whom I serve, 24 Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be
brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them
that sail with thee. 25 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for
I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me. 26 Howbeit
we must be cast upon a certain island."
In closing, we as true Christians
must stand and be faithful till the end. In Matthew 24:13-14
Jesus said "13 But he that shall endure unto the end,
the same shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall
be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations;
and then shall the end come."

Memory Verses
As Christians if we
want to live in victory and if we want to be able to share the
Word Of God with others we must know the Word of God ourselves.
Let's see what the Bible says about this. "Thy word have
I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
Psalm 119:11. " If ye abide in me, and my words abide
in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto
you." John 15:7. "Then said Jesus to those Jews
which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye
my disciples indeed." John 8:31. We encourage you to
put the following scriptures in your heart: Matthew 26:41, Deuteronomy
32:4, Matthew 6:33, Genesis 18:14, II Corinthians 5:7, Exodus
24:10, I John 2:15, Ecclesiastes 3:14, Luke 18:1, Psalm 75:7.
